Community Manager Checklist

If watching your company’s social media accounts 24/7 isn’t enough for you, I have provided a list of other things a community manager should include in their weekly workload.

Being a community manager is not only about tweeting or posting, there is always opportunity to strive to stay on top of the industry and enhance your skills.
The components community managers should already be doing daily are:

• Listening
• Curating and Writing Content
• Integrating social media into campaigns
• Monitoring communities and their growth
• Acting as a liaison between the community and experts in your company
• Engaging
• Measuring and Analyzing
• Using insights to adjust your strategy

Things to keep you on your toes and always learning:

1. One of my favorite ways to begin the day is to spend at least 30 minutes reading articles on current social media trends. I use Google Reader to organize each subscription for easy scanning. Besides looking into case studies from other brands, it’s important to stay on top of the latest changes for each social media network.
2. Follow social leaders on Twitter (Examples: @jaybaer, @adamkmiec) or follow my list at (@grevealyssa/expert) and scan these tweets throughout the day.
3. Follow successful brand pages on Facebook (Oreo’s, Campbell’s Soup and Disney) and analyze each post to what makes them so successful.
4. Listen to podcasts on a weekly basis (Recommend: Social Pros Podcast)
5. Build your personal social media brand through social media including tweeting, blogging, vlogging and contributing to podcasts.
6. Follow hashtags from conferences you are unable to attend.
7. Be active and join new social media apps and networks yourself.
8. Meet in person with other social media focused individuals in your local area.

For what not to do, take a look at this daily checklist. I don’t want to see 3 Facebook shares and one status update all within short time on your company’s Facebook Page. I would rather see relevant content than something to just fill the space. Remember: quality over quantity.
